The three phases of the journey
Phase 1: Foundations (3-6 months)
You start with Noorani Qaida if you are a beginner, learning the Arabic alphabet, connecting letters, and reading short words. If you already read Arabic, you begin with basic Tajweed rules.
Phase 2: Perfect Recitation (1-2 years)
You recite the entire Quran to your teacher, cover to cover, applying all Tajweed rules. Your teacher listens carefully, corrects each mistake, and does not let you move on until your recitation is reliable.
Phase 3: Ijazah (6 months - 1 year)
Once your teacher is satisfied that you can recite the whole Quran with no significant errors, you recite it one final time as part of the Ijazah ceremony. You then receive a written certificate with the full Sanad going back to the Prophet ?.
